In his debut Australian appearance, Spanish gypsy flamenco guitarist Paco Heredia (Duquende, Jorge Pardo, Josemi Carmona, Paquete) joins with Australian jazz fusion guitarist Bart Stenhouse for a series of transformative and evocative encounters.

Bart Stenhouse has the muscle to settle any score. Musically speaking, that is. Matt Withers and Callum Henshaw, two of Canberra’s well-known guitar virtuosos, will be performing two guitar works in a concert with the National Capital Orchestra, conducted by its musical director, Leonard Weiss.

Starting with the fun World Premiere of Zodiac Animalia, in which Australian composer Jessica Wells beautifully captures the personality of each of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. We welcome back Matt Withers – Australian Guitarist as soloist for the Castelnuovo-Tedesco Guitar Concerto as well as Rodrigo’s Concierto Madrigal for 2 Guitars and Orchestra with Callum Henshaw – Classical Guitarist. The fiesta continues with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol. You can hear Jessica Well speak about her composition and the rest of the concert program at a free pre-concert talk, commencing at 6:30pm.”

The Four Winds 2018 Easter Festival will be held at Barragga Bay, about 10km south of Bermagui, from Wednesday 28 March  to Sunday 1 April (Easter long weekend).   Among the many stellar artists performing at the festival will be world-renowned guitarist, Aleksandr Tsiboulski.

From the festival’s website:

“Aleksandr Tsiboulski’s guitar playing has been praised for its ‘responsive virtuosity’ (The Age) and ‘sensuous intensity’ (Classical Guitar, UK). A former Fulbright Scholar, Tsiboulski is also first-prize winner in twelve international competitions, including the 2000 Australian Guitar Competition and the 2006 Tokyo International Guitar Competition. His 2010 Naxos release, Australian Guitar Music, was nominated for a ‘Best Classical Album’ ARIA. Based in Australia, he regularly gives concerts and lectures internationally, is exploring the 19th century guitar, and continuing his lifelong passion for the works of JS Bach through a series of filmed performances of the Cello Suite arrangements.”

Ziggy and Miles Johnston are brothers who share a deep passion for music and their instrument, the classical guitar. Following up from a recent concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre, they will present an evening filled with energy and expression that takes you on a journey through the world of Argentinian tangos and Cuban and Brazilian classical music. Through their guitar playing, the duo will capture the music of Astor Piazzolla, Sergio Assad, Leo Brouwer and Máximo Diego Pujol.

Limited seating for 50 guests in a lovely home with a performance space and comfortable seating.  The performance will begin at 6pm and will be followed by a dinner and drinks (provided) and a chance to mingle.

 Hosts Bill and Libby want to offer opportunities for Canberra audiences to share their passion for the classical guitar, its varied and interesting repertoire and for the very high level of talent present in the region.

Jesse Flowers is an emerging talent amongst the next generation of classical guitarists. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University in 2014 under Minh le Hoang and Timothy Kain. The internationally renowned composer Phillip Houghton remains an important mentor.

“The unique fusion of the Swedish perfection and the Argentinian passion”

Johannes Möller’s close collaboration with the Argentinean guitarist Laura Fraticelli has resulted in a unique form of musical expression. Their emotional playing style as well as their strong connection and stage presence make their performances unforgettable events.

Duo Möller-Fraticelli performed throughout Europe, North and South America as well as on radio and TV. The Duo have recently finished a recording with the works of Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856) for the Naxos label.

Additionally to the works of Mertz their repertoire includes Argentinean tangos as well as their own compositions.
