Congratulations to Canberra classical guitarist and educator Timothy Kain on being made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia, announced on the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
Tim has received the honour, “For significant service to music as a classical guitarist, educator and mentor.”

Currently residing in Barcelona, Australian classical guitarist Jacob Cordover enjoys a truly international career. His “consummate artistry” (Adelaide Advertiser, Australia) has enticed audiences in over a dozen countries across four continents.
Following the success of the Australian Guitar Duo’s National Tour last year, Jacob will return to Australia again this May, this time for his first solo tour in three years. Jacob will perform a range of music that reflects his varied musical and personal background and his concerts will include Australian compositions alongside Spanish masterpieces as well as standard works from the classical guitar repertoire.
Since completing his undergraduate studies with renowned performer and pedagogue Timothy Kain at the ANU School of Music, Jacob has undertaken post graduate studies in Spain and France, has won numerous prizes in international competitions including a first prize at the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra de Córdoba, Spain, and has made TV and radio appearances in Australia, Canada and the USA.
During his May tour, audiences can expect to hear works for solo guitar by Isaac Albeniz, Gaspar Sanz, Ross Edwards, Leo Brouwer, Lennon/McCartney and more. In what will be Jacob’s only Australian performances for 2013, Jacob will be joined by special guest Laura Karney (oboe & cor anglais). Together they will perform music for guitar and oboe and guitar and cor anglais including the beloved Siete Canciones Populares Españolas (7 Popular Spanish Songs) by Manuel de Falla.
The Flamenco Centre Canberra provides an opportunity for aspiring Flamenco guitarists wishing to train in the discipline of live dance accompaniment as distinct from solo playing or concert recital playing.
This privileged exposure allows you to develop an understanding of the principles and mechanics of live accompaniment: to read dancers’ movements; recognise typical percussive rhythms; and learn how dance structures fit together. This is also a valuable opportunity to drill your playing technique in a formal environment.

Few books have left such a profound impression on so many people in East and West. During a recent visit to Canberra, Czech classical guitarist Pavel Steidl held a masterclass on the stage at Llewellyn Hall at the ANU School of Music. ANU students Stephanie Jones, Alex Clark, Jesse Flowers and Campbell Diamond participated. The photo shows current and former students alongside ANU guitar teachers Timothy Kain, Minh Le Hoang and Bradley Kunda. The masterclass was made possible with contributions from the Friends of the ANU School of Music and Canberra Classical Guitar Society. Additional support was provided by Musica Viva and the ANU School of Music venue managers.
