Duo Trystero on 17 May in Canberra

Duo Trystero (tenor Robert Macfarlane and guitarist Alex Tsiboulski) perform in Canberra for the first time with a program of music by Hans Werner Henze, Benjamin Britten, Alexander Goehr and Gottfried von Einem on Thursday, 17 May 2012.  The concert will be held at Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, ACT beginning at 7:30pm.   Tickets at the door; $30/$20.  Enquiries 0403 640 669.  Website www.myspace.com/duotrystero

Both musicians with impressive credentials, Macfarlane and Tsiboulski came together in Adelaide in 2009 to form an independent series where, unconstrained by external considerations, they could develop performances of challenging contemporary works. Now in its third year, the duo’s repertoire has broadened to include music from Monteverdi to Britten and Henze, and has gained a devoted following and unanimous critical acclaim.

Tim Kain National Tour 2012

Australia’s most renowned classical guitarist and teacher Timothy Kain will kick off his 2012 Australian solo tour with a premiere in the Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House, on Saturday, 14 April 2012 at 7:30pm. 

Tim’s concert will feature a range of works including the premieres of two new compositions by Nigel Westlake and Mark Isaacs. Other cities on the tour include Townsville, Darwin, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne.  You can visit timkain.net for more information.

Steve Allen CD launch “About Time” on 11 April 2012

Canberra guitarist Steve Allen has just finalised his first CD About Time – a collection of pieces that represent some of the musicians who have inspired him to love making music. Tommy Emmanuel, Sting, Bach, Paco Peña and Django Reinhardt.  It covers many styles, including classical, jazz, flamenco, folk, popular music and gypsy Jazz.

Steve and friends will launch the CD at a performance on Wednesday, 11 April, 7:30pm at Teatro Vivaldi Restaurant at ANU Arts Centre.  For bookings ring 6257 2718.  Tickets range from $10-$20.

Benny Chong – Ukelele Jazz – 1 April 2012

Hawaiian ukelele legend Benny Chong is in Canberra following his performances at the Melbourne Ukelele Festival.  He’ll be on stage at The Front Gallery & Cafe in Lyneham on Sunday, 1 April 2012 at 7pm, accompanied by James Luke on bass.  $10 cover at the door.   More info on http://www.ukulelejazz.com/

ABC Classic FM “Sunday Live” on 1 April 2012

Sunday Live is a year-long series of nationally broadcast, free public concerts staged by ABC Classic FM in a different capital city or regional centre each month.  The April concerts are traditionally held in Canberra.

The first of the Canberra concerts on 1 April will feature the Brew Guitar Duo, soprano Rebecca MacCallion and guitar solos by Matthew Withers and Bradley Kunda.

When: 3pm, Sunday 1 April 2012
Where: Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music, Canberra ACT
Free entry. Be seated by 2:45pm
